| Job Description | Sitting just off the Normandy coast, Alderney is the most northerly island of the Channel Islands and is renowned for its relaxed and friendly people and its beautiful coastline. Only three and a half by one and a half miles in size, it has a wealth of character and charm and attracts hundreds of visitors to its shores every year. Alderney's 24-bed hospital works in close partnership with the main hosptial with its sister island of Guernsey. All major surgery and almost all births take place in Guernsey, with patients generally returning to Alderney for convalescent and postnatal attention. There is a strong focus on combined community and elderly care nursing, which is provided by the local staff, and a health visitor travels to the island once a week. Medical input is by two local GP practices. The Health and Social Services Department is keen to recruit a nurse to work as part of the island's multidisciplinary team. The successful applicant will find a friendly and supportive working environment and be encouraged to develop a 'hands-on' approach. Along with an attractive remuneration and orientation package, the Health and Social Services awards a retention bonus of £3,000 upon completion of two years' service and a further lump sum of £622 each February. An excellent salary package is offered and experience and candidates will be given a substantial flight reimbursement as well as significantly subsidised accommodation. Unlike UK healthcare organisations, Guernsey healthcare authority offers F grade and above nursing staff, subsidised housing for those with partners and/or children as well as relocation costs. You will also have the added advantage of your income tax being capped at 20% meaning your income after tax will be considerably higher allowing you to save money whilst working in a beautiful location and within a first class clinical environment. The Island itself offers hiking/rambling, sailing, swimming and endless other water sports activities.
